Beaune, city of Art and History

History

It is in 1452 that the city knows a real boom, when Nicolas Rolin, then Chancellor of Philip le Bon, Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, found a new religious order and open the doors of the Hospices de Beaune to welcome sick and disinherited

A few hundred meters from the Hospices, you can go up the Avenue of the Republic to reach the impasse where stands the Notre-Dame de Beaune collegiate church, which is part of the last great Romanesque churches of Burgundy, built in the 12th century on the Cluniac model.

At nightfall, from June to September, during Christmas and major events, the facade lights up under the projections of lights, many concerts are also given, especially during the Baroque Music Festival in July.

The Museum of Fine Art

To have the opportunity to stroll among the works of Felix Ziem, Hyppolyte Michaud or Michel Tourlière, you go through the Porte Marie de Bourgogne and discover the entrance of Museum of Fine Arts of Beaune in the atrium.
